Let's address the ELEPHANT in the "TRAVEL WORLD"!
The Travel Industry is still topsy turvey!! Yes, I am planning many vacations for 2022 and onward well into 2023.
The hurdles I am experiencing that most people outside of this industry are unaware of;
Staffing: Every component within the industry. Hotels, airlines, cruise lines, tour guides and ground transportation. Every position with in a company. Liaisons - between travel agents and travel suppliers, wait staff, maintenance engineers, reservation coordinators, valet, concierge, MANAGEMENT.
As a travel agent I spend many hours per day on HOLD in order to create, confirm, modify and trouble shoot your travel reservations. The tour companies, airlines, car rental companies, cruise lines let go of the majority of their staff about May-June 2021. This means there are very few "people" answering phones while we wait on hold! E-mail is at times more productive, but not substantially.
The car rental companies sold more than half of their fleets and are now having trouble purchasing vehicles. The airlines were a difficult component prior to Covid 19, now they are the crux of many itinerary issues. Also with little support staff to implement solutions. Hotels with so little staff on premise have issues with food service, valet, check in/out and housekeeping.
The best advice I will offer for travel in 2021 is make the best of it and PACK your PATIENCE!
My 2022 travel wish list:
- I want you to travel.
- I want you to enjoy the experience of travel.
- I want to be the first person you call of when you begin to think about your vacation in 2022.
- I want to get my business back on track and begin to earn an income, again!
